First Time on Audio: Jilly Cooper's A Pressing Engagement

Post Machine is proud to have worked on the campaign for Jilly Cooper's A Pressing Engagement, the new Audible Original from the bestselling author of Rivals, starring Corey Mylchreest and Rhea Norwood alongside Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Vivian Oparah, and Bessie Carter.

Set in London in 1978, the story follows Hester, a secretary stuck in a stalled relationship with her older boyfriend, Julian — until an offer to work for a film producer gives her a way out, and a fake engagement gives her the excuse. It's classic Jilly Cooper: warm, funny, and full of heart, produced in collaboration with the Cooper Estate and Happy Prince, the team behind the Disney+ hit Rivals.

We were brought on to retouch the key visual and the wider campaign roll-out — cover art, digital banners, and London Underground tube cards — getting every asset ready to hold its own everywhere the campaign runs, from a phone screen to a tube platform.

A new format for us

This was also our first time retouching for an audiobook cover — a genuinely exciting one to add to our range. The visual language is different to film and TV key art in some good ways: less about a single frame carrying a whole story, more about capturing a feeling — glamour, mischief, romance — in a way that pulls someone in before they've heard a single word of it. Bold colour, warm light, and a cast clearly having fun made this an easy brief to enjoy working on.

And the news just landed today: A Pressing Engagement has hit number one in the charts — a brilliant result, and a real sign of just how well this campaign has landed.

Congratulations to the whole team at Audible UK on a beautifully put-together campaign — we had a great time being part of it.
